Tis the season for scares and screams, and some people are taking advantage of upcoming Halloween to host haunted houseboat tours. Here are a few that we’ve found around the web if you’re looking for some fun nautical scares.
The USS Nightmare
Not for the faint of heart, the Haunted Dredge Boat tour takes place on the Ohio River in Newport, Ky. Running all the way up until Halloween night, you can check out ticket prices here. There is no age limit, but due to the frightening nature the hosts recommend that groups with younger kids try their less intense Lights On Matinee show. The tours typically last for 25 to 30 minutes, but you can choose your own pace.
William A. Irvin Haunted Ship
Every year, the town of Duluth, Minn., transforms this historic ore ship into a haunting adventure unlike any other. Rumor has it that the ship is actually haunted, but you can’t find out for yourself unless you walk through the hallways, engine room, and the maze of terror unter Lake Superior for yourself. Self-guided tours are open until Halloween night, with information on ticket prices here.
Private Eye On Seattle Tour
Check out the Lake Union houseboat community in Seattle, Wash., while joining the Capitol Hill True Crime Tour. This adventure takes you through the Capitol Hill neighborhood just east of Downtown and through surrounding neighborhoods before heading down to Lake Union to check out the resident houseboats. Famous people featured include Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Ted Bundy. For more information, visit their website here.

Provo River Halloween Cruise
For those who prefer to celebrate the softer side of Halloween, check out the CLAS Ropes Course Halloween Cruise, a themed adventure riverboat ride up the Provo River in Utah. Check out the ghoulish decorations, listen to scary stories like The Headless Horseman, watch out for the Pirate Attack, and see over 100 hand-carved jack-o-lanterns along the banks. For ticket prices and departure times up through Halloween night, click here. The cruise lasts about 20 to 25 minutes. Don’t forget to check out their video below!
