As the folks in our recent Choderwood spotlight will tell you, staying the night on a houseboat instead of a hotel has a host of benefits, including getting to know an area in a unique way. Turns out, Chris Laugsch from Germany thinks the exact same thing.
iGNANT, an online magazine, brings word about Laugsch’s houseboat that is part of Welcome Beyond, the vacation rental company he owns with his brother. The houseboat they rent roosts in a secluded spot on the Spree river in Berlin. The overall style is very modern, with concrete surfaces softened by wooden touches and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a beautiful view of the river.
“It kind of creates a vibe in itself because of the view. That’s why we kept it relatively simple inside,” Laugsch told iGNANT. “We didn’t want guests to be distracted by too many images or anything else on the walls, because the view is the image – and it’s beautiful.”
He explained that its location is private while still being a three-minute stroll to the nearest café/restaurant. For those who want to explore the city, the brothers provide two bikes that can be used to get to Friedrichschain in about 15 minutes.
“Many people have plans to visit sights in Berlin and to tour the city, but often they’ll just stay here because it’s just really relaxing,” he added. “There are even people from Berlin that spend a few nights here.”
