Since I am getting new gauges, I was thinking of getting a new dash board so I could rearrange the gauges.

I looked at some stuff on the internet under "Dash Boards" and all I could find was pre-drilled. It looks like I will have to make it myself.

What would be a good material to use and where would I buy it?

Google "custom boat dash". Aluminum is always nice.

I've reman'd a few dashboards. Yes on aluminum. .094" thick is plenty thick enough. You can anodize it and/or powdercoat it any color you want, and with a little care it'll outlast the boat. You can also use a variety of acrylics.

My favorite change was in our old '88 Sun Runner, it had a funky printed gray acrylic gauge panel with matching aluminum panels, I replaced the acrylic with aluminum and reworked the aluminum to fit Carling switches, had it blue anodized and I re-engraved everything. Completely changed the boat.

I've made some nice acrylic dash panels, but aluminum is my favorite material :)

That looks great!
How did you get the white engraving on the blue panel?
Did you engrave it yourself?
I am about to start ripping the old stuff out in a few days and then find or make the panel.
I made some photo changes and the new proposed panel looks better with the engraving.
here is with and without the engraving.

Well I was going to upload the files and this site keeps telling me they are not valid files. They are standard jpg.

You can't upload photo's to this site! To post photo's you need to host them in a public hosting service like Photo Bucket or it's like and then link them to this site.

Frantically Relaxing used to or maybe even still does some beautiful engraving work if nothing else he'd be the man to talk to about some pointers. His website is down but I found some of his work you can view on the internet archives. Click Here (http://web.archive.org/web/20110128194334/http://engraver1.com/)
