Motoring south on the Tenn-Tom in September, and would like to avoid the mess in mobile bay . I have no problem with 16' vert. clearance so I thought I'd take the Tensaw cutoff at mile 10 to the Tensaw river, south around the west side of Gravine Island , then south to the Blakeley River and into the east side of Mobile Bay.
Anyone have experience with this route? Suggestions? Dire warnings?
Thanks

Nope, can not take the Tensaw down the east side, Highway 90 bridge is too low.

If you do come down the Tensaw, at the split at the Mobile River, ( I did it, thinking I could get under the bridges) you will need to follow it back west some, and there is a bridge you can get under. Which is almost to the west end of the bay.
I would just follow the normal route and cruise past the Port of Mobile.

Take a look at it on Google Earth, and you will see what I mean, I tried to insert an image, and was unable to.

Here is the link to Pirates Place.
And yes do stop, and stretch a little.
Highly recommended.
