A new floor is planned, for the salon galley hall. Question is, does anyone have any first hand experience with nailed down hardwood flooring.

We have used the floating sculptured vinyl like flooring, we have had linoleum/ vinyl, carpet, & cork.

Now IM wondering about the non flex issue with nailed down, hope I can hear from those of you who have first hand experience, but as always can sort through the others (wink)

This isnt a HB that stays on the dock we go out

were putting self locking hardwood in our gibson when it warms up enough to do it. several boats near us have hardwood floors with no problems and we pull out every year. there is a 75 ft pluckebaum just up the river from us with nailed hardwood in the galley with no problems.

Don't worry abut a nailed down floor. Even if the floor is nailed down it still will move a little. About 8 years ago I installed a nailed down 3/4" thick solid Cherry floor in the upper salon of my old 57' Carlcraft. Approx 22' x 10'. I had no problems with it and it still looks very good with the new owner reporting no issues. Sorry I can't find a picture to post.

I have been in the Pluckebaum that 42gibson mentioned and it is beautiful. Here is a picture of the floor in it.

I believe that floor is a true inlay. lots of precisely cut pieces assembled like a puzzle. I have seen the same effect though not as nice achieved with stencils and careful staining. You could also paint a design on and seal it in with polyurethane.

The woodwork on that Pluckebaum is Amazing. The boat is listed on Yachtword with different pic of the interior. Lots of beautiful walnut.

boatlover is right, that boat is beautiful.i think the best part is the rumbling from those cats when the boat comes by us even at a idle.
