    Need to convince wife

A friend from the dock is selling their cruiser to get into a HB so they have more room for visiting family. I gave them a tour of our boat one day to give them some ideas about types of HBs. The next week, they asked me how much I wanted for my boat! If we sold ours, I'd profit pretty well on it b/c I got an excellent deal on it, but buying a new one will be more expensive now than when my boat was built new. They're serious about buying ours, but my wife doesn't want to hear anything about selling or buying a new one.

I determined that a new boat would only run us $300 more a month than we're currently paying. I'm all for going from an '06 into a '14 or '15 for only $300 more a month. Man! What to do?

Unless you are going to buy something that is different from your existing boat - bigger, laid out differently, ... I really do not see why you would sell and buy just to get a newer boat.

But, hey, I have had three houseboats, seven runabouts, and five jet skis over the years - do what makes you happy.

Well, I have 2 cabins in my current boat. The guest cabin has bunk queen beds. I'd really like to have 2 cuddy cabins instead. Sailabration's new boats have the generator, micro commanders, and HVAC compressor set down inside the pontoons instead of on the back deck, like mine is now. This opens up more usable room in several places and improves the function as well. They now hatch open several of the 'toons for storage too, which my boat lacks sorely. For the price of one of their new ones, you can't really buy something comparable used AND late model. That's the allure for me. My wife told me last night to "quit dreaming b/c it ain't happening."

Funny story: my brother recently moved from Charlotte to Memphis for a new job. As such, he had to sell his 29' sailboat he dearly loved. The day he sold it, I asked him if that old saying was true, to which he quickly replied "NO!"

Interestingly enough, I have never had to convince my wife about boats. If anything, she wanted to move up before I was ready.

I should have been more specific. we have always bought the second boat before selling the first one, but the wife is always happy to see the second boat and i'm always happy to see the first boat go!

They always love them when they work without issues. Once I have to start working on it they want it sold!

It's best to avoid this approach with wives.
