    Ky Lake accident

This week a boater from Missouri was killed when reportedly running under the short spans of Eggners Ferry Bridge. You should never run under the short spans and always stick to the channel. Right now there are several concrete supports under water that are normally visible at the bridge. Always follow the navigation buoys and pay close attention to the markers and signs that indicate hidden obstructions.

I have run Kentucky Lake all my life and frankly am surprised more people have not been hurt or killed. The water fluctuates up and down rapidly and objects appear and disappear with the level. One rock has gotten 6 out-drives I personally know of. There are areas that GOT to be open, free and clear of objects but if you run them you find a stump field. The only good thing is Kentucky lake does not change much so a good map showing depths is a big help. In this case the guy probably run that area 2-3 years ago without problem then Blam! Fog may have been a factor? it gets soupy out there.

A guy in his 50s died on Percy Priest lake in Nashville Saturday night. Word is he jumped off his friends pontoon boat at night while under way. When they turned the boat around to go back and get him, they couldn't find him. My dock neighbors said there were 5 search boats combing the lake and our marinas cove was light up like it was day time. I don't think they found him yet. Sad.

The local news said the the motor broke off and hit the passenger in the boat. Driver wasn't injured. It sounds like pretty high speed. We used to boat at Cave Run Lake which is loaded with flooded timber. I was astonished at how fast people would move in the dark in the shallow areas.

The world is full of idiots. I have almost given up on taking out boat to fireworks on the riverfront due to the crazys. Once the fireworks are over, they all go WOT in the pitch black towards home. I am way too worried about hitting something in the day time let alone at night.
