We're new at this and seem to be going 'round and 'round searching on the internet for a couple of things for our houseboat.
1. Scalloped awning - it's a trim that we've seen hanging down from the edge of the front porch roof. Can you buy it or order it by the foot, by the yard, etc? Where do you get it?
2. Rope Lighting - Interior and exterior. Where is the best place to get it? Anything we should know about it good or bad?
We don't mind shopping on the internet but the sites I've pulled up thus far have been of no help in either of these areas.
Thanks

hard to tell exactly what you want... For the awnings have you tried the RV sites? 120v rope lights are common in the Big Box stores around Christmas; but they may be going out of fashion.

The rope lights are available at Lowes and Home Depot. You could buy it in 3/8 or 1/2 inch amd cut to any length however I do no believe they sell in big rolls any more because some fires have been caused by improper installation of the ends by the novice.
The scalloped Awning Canvas is custom made. There are several shops in the towns along the Kentucky border, ie. Albany, Burkesville, Monticello, Risselsprings etc. The same people who make partytop canvas covers usually make these scalloped pieces.

Banana Tom - Scalloped awning trim is something we've seen around the top of the front "porch" on... Jamestowners, Sumersets, maybe others. I think it is some kind of canvas material and the edge is scalloped and has a contrasting seam-binding type of trim around the scalloped part.... copy and paste this link - this boat has it around the edge of the top of the front porch.

Hope this makes sense.

Thank you, Birdman - great information and help. You'all are a wealth of information on this forum.
Maybe after we learn enough, we can be of help here, too at some point. We appreciate each of you and your willingness to help.

Lakeside,
If you don't mind wating about a month or two, when the Christmas lights hit Costco, you can pickup 25ft strings of the LED rope lights for about $24.00. I have had both incandecent and LED and prefer the LED. It puts out a blue/white light, uses about 25% of the power and is cool to the touch.
You can but it in rolls online but it runs about $3 @ foot.

Thanks, Rick. Have noticed several boats in the past couple of days that have them and have wondered if they weren't from a trim-a-tree shop. I appreciate the info.

For both the scalloped awning trim and the rope lighting you can
call Lehr Awning Co. in Mansfield,Ohio (419) 747-7957 and speak to
Phillip Russell. They make custom awnings and party tops and
sell the rope lighting and a slick mounting track for the rope
lighting. Prices are very reasonable. Phillip has a
houseboat on Cumberland and therefore knows the needs of "house
boaters."

Thanks, Jim
We're still "redoing" and I haven't gotten to the rope lighting as of yet - thought we'd be there by now... I feel that we now have a couple of good places to check out.
This is a LOT of work (but we're enjoying every minute of it!)
Thanks again...
