We have our broadband again. I am able to manage pics now, but can't seem to shrink them to suit the rules.
I'm using standard Windows XP picture manager & average size snapshots.
Geeze Louise, they want em small here! They want em sized by KBs, but I have to work in de mentions or % of de mentions.
I sized 1 down to 30% of regular size and it was still too many KBs.
Can anyone slap me upside da head (as they say here), and learn me something?
Thanks

You can go to photobucket.com and resize them there or send them to me (DNNO@aol.com)and I'll post them for you.

You have to resize the photos two ways, physical dimensions and resolution.  Using Picture manager or Adobe Photoshop or any other software to manipulate photos can do this.

In Picture Manager, select from the menu, Picture, Resize. Then resize the physical dimensions to about 600 pixels by 400 pixels ( 6 by 4 inches), using either Custom Width and Height, or Percentage of Original Width and height and click OK.

All photos are scanned or taken with a digital camera at a specified resolution usually 300 dpi.  You need to change it to 72. Most monitors can’t display better than 72 dpi, some of the newer ones can display 96 dpi. So next lower the resolution.  Select Picture, Compress.  Select Web Pages, OK.  Then save it under a new name.  That saves your original. and will give you a much smaller photo to display on the web.

A little more "in depth" to Dave's mention of Photo Bucket. Go to Photo Bucket and open a free account (really a pretty handy thing to have, if you mess about with much photography). after you transfer images to Photo bucket, they have a really simple resize functon to "web page", "forum" and a couple of other sizes. Super simple!

Ok, got it. Thanks
I've lost a pic or two in the past, "fooling" around with Windows.

Guess I'll whine a little more.
I joined, resized, but can only open a page to send the pics to My Space or a cell phome.
Read the tutorial but I don't find the button to email them back to "My Documents" (where I assume they have to be to allow them to load onto this site.

Great start, Ted-- now, for your next trick, could you spare us a few more pixels? These aged eyes can hardly read the denomination on that-there postage stamp- even the supposedly full-size one. (Notice I haven't dared to try the post-a-photo trick myself.... just full of good ideas about how everybody else should do it.)

Amelia,

Bring up the photo and use the zoom button in the lower right hand corner of that window.

Sorry , I just can't master the chore. Not from a lack of trying. I've experimented for more than 2 hours at this. Even Marybob is no help, (except I no longer feel singuarly stupid).
I'll keep at it though.

Ted, I feel your pain!
Who was the genius who said these computers were supposed to SAVE us time? And make our lives EASIER? No doubt it was the same one who predicted 'paperless' offices.
I've spent the last two long days wrestling with a desktop publishing program; my wastebasket runneth over, and my printer's out of ink. Again.
Glad the other 'creative' person in this household hasn't had to discard this many sheets of 3/4" treated plywood!

Hey Peter Ike,

I followed your directions, the above is what I got. Maybe I need to try a diiferant size to make it clearer.

Since Ted is becoming such a great photo poster, I got fired up to keep with the Tedses.
