Just recently figured out how to "paste" and "copy" these. Hope someone finds them helpful, as I've long ago lost track of who was interested.

From my observations, after installing both one of these and a KVH unit, using one of these and being exposed to a KVH unit, and pricing one of these compared to a KVH unit ($900. as opposed to $3,000.) there's no real comparison for use on a houseboat.

If conditions are rough enough to need vertical tracking, I AIN'T GONNA BE WORRIED ABOUT TV SIGNAL!!!!!!!

When you say 'there is no real comparison for use on a houseboat.', are you trying to say there is no real advantage to the "in motion" satelite?

see the overhead tin. Signal strength (?). A covered slip I assume. Calm water? What degree of passing boat wakes will the KVH tolerate before vertical seeking IS necessary?

We have too many knukleheads who won't obey "No Wake" signs.

The "Follow Me" is an in-motion tracking device also. It has a electro magnetic compass that locks on true north and holds far more accurately than is necessary to stay in tv dish's "sweet spot". It just won't track up and down as would be necessary in heavy seas. If any boat wake ever hits hard enough to disrupt your dish, there'll be dishes, pots, pans, glasses and etc dumped out of every cabinet, wine rack, closet on your boat! For the difference between $900. and three grand, just how big-a wakes are you expecting?

Yes we're in a covered stall. No dish will recieve through metal. A dock mounted dish must be used when in stall. Have A/B switch installed under helm to route from dock dish or Follow Me dish.

Boat wakes,,, see above.

Best,

Bob

That WAS my question in reverse. How small a wake will disrupt the $900 brand? Better way to ask maybe, how many degree swing up & down before picture is lost?

Guess what I'm saying is it's not a problem, because to the best of my knowlede, I've never lost signal due to rocking.

If we've ever lost signal like this, we were too busy trying to stay upright to notice TV!

OK, I got it. Thanks.
Our Direct TV dish goes nuts every time the wind blows and the 1 tree branch I can't reach to trim, waves back & forth at the supposed edge of the sweet spot. I was afraid all dishs might be that touchy.
No one we know has a HB dish. After reading this, the wife REALLY wants one now. Me? I like XM radio.

So Bob, you are saying that BTTW across the lake will offer NO signal disruption or picture loss? That's a sweet deal then.

I have a unique problem at my lake. This pertains to cell access and directly effects the use of a 'air card' for net access. When the water drops to winter pool, (for approx 6 months out of the year) we lose all cell signal. This means I need a satellite system for my high speed net access, and forces me to use something that combines both TV and HS internet. This year I am going to experiment with some of the higher powered cell signal booster amps and taller antenna length on the boat. If this works I can use the Follow Me instead of the higher cost sats. The way I see it is these top notch cell amps run about 1300 to 1500 and it could be cheaper for me if it works. There are less expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for.

If I could get some dependable equipment, I could spend much more time on the water.

Ed,

Think you need to see "Follow Me" home site. http://www.track-it-tv.com/

They say "Wild Blue", "Hughes Net", etc won't work because of need to upload to sattellite. Have Hughes Net here at home and hate it expensive, failure prone, hard to keep signal strength up. Satellite TV works great, dish has to "hit" a sweet spot the size of a basketball goal. Satellite internet VERY finicky, has to hit spot on the upload the size of a Quarter!!!

"Follow Me", or "KVH" both great for TV. InternetALL BETS ARE OFF!!

If I can solve my cell signal issue with the amp, then I can absolutely use the Follow Me system. Momma needs the TV I need the net. And it needs to be dependable too. I can just see me in a $500 buy-in tournament and lose my connection just in front of the final table. I would blow a hole in the boat.

Thanks Bob,
Edd
