If water is such a precious commodity on board and marine showers (is that what you call them?) are recommended, then why are bath tubs installed? Do they serve other purposes besides the obvious? Is it possible that a tub full of water for bathing would consume less water than a marine shower? Very curious about this.

I think it's a sales thing; doesn't have to make sense.

The tubs can be used while hooked to shore water. There you have no worries about limited water, other than the hot water capacity.

On monticellos they have bath tubs but they are 1/3 smaller than a std. home bath tub. They also carry 240 gallons of water,( some of the larger lake boats hold 400 gallons) so a bath doesn't use up all your potable water.

Thanks for the answers! Didn't think about shore water use, but even so, the tubs are soooo small and take up a lot of room in the head. Their practicality is "down the drain" in my opinion.

Suprised nobody mentioned attaching the trolling motor and converting to a jacuzzi. Only out West I guess.

Some of us dont like showers. Cost me 700 bucks for a 40" RV tub for my 47 Kings/Craft. 25 years ago.

We purchased our boat used. Has 2 baths(I know the proper term is "head", but on a 78' lake boat, that really doesn't apply) guest bath has a corner 3/4 round shower, master has medium size tub/shower combo. While we would have bought the boat with two showers, wife sure loves the tub and uses it quite often while in slip. Never get the opportunity to stay out long enough for her to feel the need for a bath and shave while tied to the bank. With approx 200 gallon storage, washing machine and dishwasher can both be used on a weekend tie out. Use of one could be curtailed if bathing was desired (usually take bottle of bath soap out on back deck and bathe in the lake when water temps are suitable). It's not quite full size, but bigger than RV. Seems quite appropriate for this style boat.

Best,

Bob

I'm glad to hear that some bath tubs are big enough to be enjoyed. I personally love baths at home, but can't picture me in the tiny bath tubs we've seen on several boats. Of course, I don't know anything about it ...... we are still looking for our dream boat! We don't plan to live aboard, but I can see the utlility of regular household appliances if water, power, etc. was no problem.

So Bama, what kind of water will you be boating in? Land locked lake, river?

Spent the weekend near the water we will be boating on one of these days! It is a lake with openings that will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go. We'll most likely start off by staying in protected coves near the marina until we get more adventurous. A Tennessee River trip is on our "to do" list.
