I have been approached on a idea of taking out the 1248 hr 290
horse power single engine and replace it with twin 150 honda's
outboards. Would this be sufficient power and more stable to
run year around? Looking for idea's.

It depends. Where?
HP wise, probably, but there is more to it than Just hang a couple OBs on the back.
We had a thread going on this not too long back. And if I were going with new OBs, they would be the new fuel injected 2 strokes, not 4 stroke motors.

For what you would spend there you could put NEW Crusader engines with V-drives in and put change in your pocket. Run circles in handling, speed and resale over the outboards.

I was told here in Oklahoma inland lakes, 2 strokes are to be no
more and 4 strokes injectors are into the picture now. I may
be mis-understanding this. @ strokes with gas-oil burners are no
more here in Oklahoma. Parts are already hard to come by. Please
correct me if i am wrong. I just want to get the HB in safe
operating condition. The ole motor in her now seems to be running
ok. Just a single. Everyone thinks I am drunk out on the water.
1200 plus hours dosen't seem to much on it. Just think it would be
cheaper to hang two o/b than stabbing another engine in her. I am
open for any ideas.
Thank you

I'd be inclined to leave it as it is (it ain't broke), and spend the money on gas and "steering practice".

Thats low hours on the engine. These singles are wandering bears at low speed, HOWEVER WITH PRACTICE you can steer a straight course. Make sure you don't have slop in your steering system. From a resale standpoint your boat is worth more in unmodified condition. Many boats have been made unsaleable by modifications similar to those you mention.

The twin 150 outboards do not have enough power to plane.
If you want twin outboards, twin 60 hp Mercury big foots will
do just fine.I would get a single new Mercruiser Bravo 2 or 3 at
about 400 hp.

Have to agree with Old Houseboater here. If you make that radical an alteration you'd better plan on using her a long time. No one's gonna be willing to buy afterward.

I third that, you will ruin resale by ruining it with outboards.
