was wondering if anyone had any tips on replacing a water heater on a 1971 trojan HB.I can't see any other way to get to it accept from where the pilot light gets lit outside.

Sounds like an RV heater. I have one, they install from the outside. If you have flex water lines you may be be able to pull the heater and then remove the lines. Otherwise you'll have to find a way to access the inside to remove the lines.

Once you remove the cover on the heater, you should find a flange around the heater with screws/rivets holding it to the boat's structure. Remove them and the heater should slide right out.

Ralph, I agree with stmbtwle. The only way I can Access the heater ids from the outside. I hope the water line is close when I have to remove it. The only problem I've had so far is a rusted pilot light tube. cleaned that and the heater works fine.

thanks.you both confirmed what I thought.I bought the boat in nov and the previous owner gave me a new water heater in a box. I am not going to check the status of the old one till weather permits.
