Just purchased a 2000 sumerset american waterways. The previous owners seem to have kept every manual possible but I cannot find anything on the breaker panel. The boat has dual 50 service and in the middle of the panel are the 220 breakers. I would like to know what the breaker labeled Bypass is for. Also when I got to my slip I only had one 50 amp leg ready on my service, another sumerset owner told me I could pull off one leg as long as it was the one that lit up the transfer light on the panel. This didn’t seem to work for me so the marina plugged me into neighbors post till they get my post rewired. Would anyone know if there is such a manual out there for this box. Thanks in advance and I am sure I will have more questions.Bo

I believe the bypass switch relates to the inverter.

Whether you are using it or not.

As to manuals - no - I am afraid you are on your own - but all sumersets are the same.

I am sure you got a great boat.

Sadly, Sumerset closed and their auction was in July.
On my Sumerset, there is a transfer switch at the top of the panel which allows me to run off of a single 50 amp leg.
Try posting a photo of your panel and we'll see if we can help.

Bypass is in the middle towards the bottom. Transfer is on the right in the middle

We have a 2000 Sumerset as well. The transfer section is for moving between the generator and shore power. Basically, you pull down the switch and slide it over to the the other side. The transfer is basically a light but it is to let you know that power is available to be transferred. If you have any other questions on the boat please don't hesitate to send me a note.

It is really just the two two red switches to move between the generator and shore power.. It seems like they utilized some odd wording on the panels in 2000 but my electrical panel looks exactly the same.

I can't even imagine the cluster&^#! of wiring in that boat, with nearly every electical item having it's own space on an electric control panel!

Our boat's wired like a house, nothing fancy, it just works. The entire electric system controls are confined to the helm. The top 2 switches on the switchplate control the two 12 volt legs. (there's also a 12v breakers in the engine room) The 120 volt inputs are controlled by the black 'ship-shore-inv' switch below and to the right of the steering wheel, just pick the one you're using. Under the helm hidden behind a small door is a small 120 volt breaker box.

That's it.

I've been going to install some voltmeters, but after 5 seasons with this boat, I haven't found it necessary...

As for the question of "what is the BYPASS switch"? Not a clue. "Bypass" seems to be a misnomer, since if you bypass something, you're not using it... ?

It is a granular control issue.

When you are running a inverter off generator it comes in handy.

It looks MUCH more complex than it is.

I actually really appreciate it and everyone I know who uses it appreciates the simplicity of the newer boats that have it.

Guess we don't want to show you the pictures of the Water closet

Okay,

Figured out the bypass switch.

Underneath the flooring are two 50 amp connectors.

In essence the power system runs through the Inverter. If for any reason the Inverter were to break you can move the 50 amp cable over to the other connector and turn off the bypass connector switching the boat to alternate power.

Hence - the "Bypass" switch
