Found myself in Birmingham, AL on 12/07/11. At 10:30 am it started snowing!! Huge snow flakes fell for a whole 5 minutes.

It was freezing that far north.

Glad I was only there for a day, and then got my butt back to the Beach!!!

I guess it finally got here too. Chilly, gloomy and threatening to rain.

I live at almost the same parallel as you, and know exactly how you feel about winter . But I know if I had my chance I'd be shedding some clothes someplace south and warm even for just for awhile.

It's the typical type of season we experience here too stmbtwle. Often weeks of cold or cool and damp gloomy weather it makes one want to hibernate someplace or anyplace until the next boating season .

Speaking of here, on another forum they started a membership map. It's kind of interesting, you can pin your location, add a photo if you want, heck you can even add a reverent link about the boating area to your pin if you care to. I think the map is actually free, would there be any interest for one here ??

We've finally got the Lotus Eater all festooned with lights again this year--festive Christmas Tackiness writ large. Hoping for a nice calm warmish day over the holidays, so we can take visiting small grandpersons for a ride.... now that we have this boat-docking all figured out, of course.

OK Amelia I made one or at least think I did, but I'm needing a guinea pig or two to ensure I got it right. If I did anyone should be allowed to make or pin entries as to their boating locations on the map here. Houseboat Forums Membership Map

Amelia this should go without saying: "This Comment Requires Pictures".

Tried it, Bamby-- got the address right, but stuck the marker near Pittsburgh. Uh, no, we moved away from that end of the world on purpose! And it won't let me delete it. Needs a power-user. I expect that must be you.

Hi Amelia,
It appears it working somewhat anyway. What happened is somehow it allowed you to tag my home tag. Since I opened the map my computer is somewhat corrupted so I can't be sure if you are seeing the same thing. I may haft to make some adjustments to the map somehow, can't be sure. It does appear that jantn was able to tag OK though. I think you can drag the tag a bit to land it exact as necessary to get it in the exact right place. We'll see how it goes and make adjustments as needed .

It's not a big deal or a problem Amelia . It appears as if you have a huge playground to cruise around in. I switched the map to satellite view and when you zoom it in a person can see some boats cruising in the bay in front of your marker!! It's pretty neat all in all. I'd bet if the satellite shot were new enough a person who knew could pick out your boat sitting in it's mooring..

I'm going to haft to dig deeper to see what actual lake jantn in on. The darn map doesn't name it, but it appears to be one big body of water.. I know I should know my geography better, but that's what maps and google are for..

The satellite map IS new enough--and this project has been a work-in-progress long enough (sigh), that the boat is visible. If you follow Edenton Bay to its northern edge, you'll see tiny Filbert's Creek northbound, just to the west of downtown Edenton. Zoom in one more notch, and you can see the Lotus Eater beside our dock, just to the west of the creek, right at the easternmost edge of the somewhat larger Pembroke Creek. Filbert's Creek is where we hid it from Hurricane Irene.

You're got pretty darn close to the lake there Dan .

It's actually pretty easy but some may be still struggling some with it. Open the map link and then enlarge it into the area you're going to pin. Hit the additions link near the top left and the "add marker simple" will work. This will open a pop open window where you can post you forum handle on the top under "entry name". Then you can go on down to the description area and enter a bit of something if you care to.

Now as administrator of your pin you can click on it then your name link on the popup and you can then edit or add to you pin as you see fit. If you'd like click on mine in central Ohio and see what I mean and you can do with your pin.
