Are you back on a boat on your way southbound yet? Hope you'll call if time permits! It's been grand weather lately, though I did see a prediction of snow flurries changing to rain for Wednesday.
Well, JJohnson made it to Elizabeth City, NC, and due to several misadventures of the non-nautical sort, found a comfortable place to dock his home-made houseboat for a month while he tended to more urgent duties. His hand-crafted boat is full of splendid ideas (some of which we intend to shamelessly steal), and is even compact enough to be trailered as a land-based camper, too. He's done nearly all of the work himself, and says he's learned that weather expertise is more important than seamanship skills as far as maintaining a safe passage. When he returns from his latest land-lubbering, will head across the fearsome Albemarle Sound as soon as he finds a nice calm window for the 6-hour passage. He stopped over this morning to look at our much-less-complete efforts, and finally found words for his amazement. "My girlfriend thinks I'M crazy. I can't wait to get home and tell her no, I'm not crazy. Now, HE's crazy," pointing at Rob. I think he meant it in a good way... but there's a lot of latitude there. Maybe by the first of next week he'll find a stretch of pretty weather to head for Myrtle Beach.... he's hoping to prove a bunch of nay-sayers wrong in their predictions of doom. Ha! We're right behind ya, Jim!
