All,

OHB gave me an idea to keep track of all the work I am doing to my boat this spring and the few years to come. I took his advice and I started a blog today. I will update it with a lot of pictures of the work that I continue to do on the boat and everything that comes with it. I hope you follow it with me.

If the paint is sound above the waterline you don't need to sandblast it. Scuff it up, spot prime with an automotive primer spray bomb, and give it a new coat of color and your done.

This saves 1/3+ of the sand blasting cost, zinc chromate prime coat, (expensive) and time (lots). Usually the sides are in fair shape due to being protected from the sun, by the decks.

The paint is so/so. There are some spots that are chipping pretty easily. I really need to power wash it and see where we are at.

it looks like your making good headway. just take your time and do it like you want it. it'll all come together in time and you'll sit back with a cold one and say," it wasnt all that bad"

I have only a couple of things left to connect on the flybridge and it is ready to go. As usual, I am missing a couple screws. That is what happens when you left people try and start cleaning and organizing where you have stuff kept. Losing only two screws though I am happy with.

Do not clean anything on the boat until the sandblasting is done.

Tell my wife and mother-in-law that. Should I remove anything on the interior that I don't want to get dirty?.

EastTN is right. There Will be sand everywhere. Cover or remove anything you don't want to clean. Plug All thru hulls before blasting.

Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure I get everything taken care of so I keep the beach out of my boat. Boatlover, where do you keep your boat at in Pittsburgh? I am 80 miles down river in Wheeling, WV.

At the Beaver Valley Yacht Club on the Beaver river. 25 mile marker. I have been there 24 years. The boat is in Louisville right now at Pluckebaum getting some maintenance work done. going to bring it home end of May. Will probably overnight at Heritage port in Wheeling on the way home.

Sweet!!! I would love to take a look at her when you come through. Rayland marina would be another spot that would be a nice overnight place. They have a few 70 footers that stay there full time. If you come in, I can take you out to a decent place to eat if you'd like.

How deep is Rayland. I was there once with a friend looking at a 25 cuddy. He was stirring up alot of mud on test ride. Didn't think I wanted to try to go in there.

They have been dredging all winter. I know they are trying to get it 8ft deep throughout the marina. They could keep you near the entrance. The heritage port would be easy in and easy out. I don't know if it matters, but there won't be a place to plug in for power at Heritage.

8 ft would be great. Only need 5 to be safe. Don't want to bend a rudder or a prop. I may drive down and check it out before I bring boat home.

The best way to get ahold of them is to go down on a weekend. The owner is normally there doing work. His name is Rick and is a really nice guy.

Tape up all the openings to your boat and cover the stuff inside. How well they tarp it will determine how messy it gets. They supposed to trap all of the sand and the paint and anything else that comes off of the boat during this process and have it tested to see how they can dispose of it. If they are following all of the EPA rules, then it should not be too bad inside.

10 Gallons of Coal Tar Epoxy ordered. 2 Gallons of hardener. I am going to need another half gallon of hardener though. I will call in tomorrow and get that added to the order. I also have a call into the Sandblaster to get it all scheduled. I talked with the marina and they are fine to move the boat for me when I need it.

Keep an eye on the blog over the next week. A lot of work is going to be done and I am going to get a lot of pictures taken. We will be putting the boat on blocks tomorrow. Fingers crossed that goes well.
