I like the blue hull. Might be a bear to keep clean, but it looks good.

Thanks ETB. I was hoping it turned out that well. We didn't do any fairing and it shows some scratches, but we didn't want to leave a bare hull. It was a last minute decision and I think it turned out pretty well. The bad part/good part is that we are probably going to get the rest of the boat painted this year. If we get the good weather, we should be able to do it in pieces. Not a huge mess maker and easy enough to complete.

We are getting there. Last coat of blue went on the bottom today and the 1st coat of coal tar where the blocking was. Pictures are here:

Jamie,
The boat looks awesome with the blue hull - great job. What type of paint and prep did you do, and how many gallons did it require?

I also saw that you're pulling a v drive. Are you planning on repairing it, or swapping for another?

Being that the blue was a quick decision, I didn't get to completely do what I wanted to the boat. I would have liked to have done a little bit of body work to fill in some scrapes in the hull, but it is what it is. I used Rustoleum marine metal primer. I put two coats of it on immediately after sandblasting and cleaning the bare hull. I bought 10qts of it and that was WAY TO MUCH. I still have 6qts left over, but they wont go to waste. After that we applied 3 coats of Pettit Paint Easypoxy electric blue. I purchased 2 gallons of it and we still have 3/4 of a gallon left. That is all at the moment. I was surprised at how easy it went on. We tried our best at tip and roll for painting and it did help a lot. I was more or less going for a good looking boat. I knew that not spraying it or filling in dents would make it OK. It turned out better than my expectations. It was so easy, I am going to attempt to do the cabin this fall. I am also debating on doing the Durabak on the decks this year as well. I haven't yet determined how I want to do the top deck.

As for the Vdrive, I am planning on just getting it fixed. It is just leaking fluid from the transmission to the Vdrive. I am hoping it is all just a bad seal in it, but we'll see. The hardest part has been finding someone with the knowledge and willingness to help me pull this thing. I don't mind picking up a wrench and removing it, but I have no idea where to start or what to remove. My buddy who has removed numerous car transmissions has offered to help get it out, but I would like someone that has done the work on a boat give me a hand. I have a guy that said he is probably available next week to help me out. However, I have had a couple people say the same thing.

Put some seal conditioner in the tranny and it will probably seal up.

Funny you posted on here. Do I use Dexron in the tranny and the vdrive? The former owner used Dexron in the tranny and a gear oil in the Vdrive. I am unsure of the weight he used.

Question: did you clean the paint of the surfaces under the anodes? Gotta.

Yes I did. I sanded down both spots on the previously painted rudder to bare aluminum. I sanded the other rudder to rough it up and then painted around the anodes. I made sure it was shiny bare aluminum they were snugged up to.
