I'm still trying to talk my wife into driving up on Sunday. We have a company party on our boat on Saturday. What's the physical address that I can enter into my navi so I can get an idea for the mileage and drive time?

"State Dock" didn't mean anything to me in Utah. I had to Google it to find out what country or state it was in. I will pass along what came up on Google if that is of any help:

Lake Cumberland State Dock?

It's a definite possibility. We will be on our way back from California, and the timing might work out just right. Do you happen to know if there's any transportation from the little Jamestown airport to the dock?

Yes sorry. Stake Dock is on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. I am not sure if there is a transportation from the Jamestown airport to the dock. I will find out.

Amelia- We don't believe there is transportation from Jamestown airport to the dock. But we will let you know for sure when we find out.

Thanks, Jocelyn. I did call the county airport in Jamestown, and talked to a very pleasant fellow, who said my choices were taxi ("but they do medical transport, and they're unreliable"), Enterprise (closed weekends), and waiting to see if he can find somebody to man the desk so he could run us out to the lake... 6 or 7 miles. Which is a LOT to ask of even the nicest total stranger. If you come up with any better ideas for how to get out there for just an afternoon, do share. Otherwise, we may just have to rock our wings as we fly overhead on our way home. I did think it would be great to stop, if time and weather were to cooperate, to see what good ideas have been had in the houseboat community since we last were at one of these shindigs. Tell you what: come fetch us, and I'll take you for a ride over the lake and you can take aerial photos of the dock crowded with fancy houseboats... ;-)

Well, I hope the houseboat expo was a wonderful success. Even though we never heard back from Jocelyn, Jamestown Airport wasn't far out of our way back from our long trip to California and back, so we landed there this morning, and made a bunch of phone calls hoping to find transportation to the lake. As we feared, we found none, no taxi, no shuttle, no rental car, no friendly local headed up the road with room for wayfaring strangers, not even an airport crew car to borrow for an hour or so. (This is customary at most airports, even ones that DON'T charge an exorbitant $6.29 per gallon for self-serve fuel.) Live and learn. We won't be making THAT mistake again! I expect there were houseboat customers aplenty, but here we had our credit cards ready to spend money in Russell County, Kentucky, and nobody wanted it. Hmph. When the self-serve pump proved balky, it was the last straw. We left. London, KY, a half hour closer to home, was happy to see us, had a friendly restaurant on the field, and aviation fuel was almost a dollar a gallon cheaper.

A 1980 Mooney 231. Only five years older than our car. And about a hundred knots faster. . So now we're home with small grandson in tow, and look forward to a lovely calm day to take him for a houseboat ride.
