What is your favorite meal/food to eat on your boat? Are any of you big into barbecuing? Any good recipes out there?

Our houseboat is, as yet, and for the foreseeable future, very much a Work-in-Progress. Our meals so far are picnic fare. Not that we can't put together an adequate cold meal to take along, but if it involves a galley with a stove, enough electricity to run a crock pot, running water, or any other preparation/clean-up, we're not there yet. That said, a platter of marinated, pre-grilled and sliced medium-rare flank steak, sliced new red potatoes and baby green beans, sloshed with a little fresh rosemary/garlic vinaigrette, accompanied by little croissants and a jug of screw-cap wine, and followed by fresh strawberries folded into very lightly sweetened whipped cream, did make for a pleasant light supper on our recent maiden voyage/camping trip afloat.
If you look back on some of the archives here, you'll find mouth-watering recipes for all-day pot roast, fresh-caught-and-grilled fish, and many other wonderful ideas. Many of the most interesting involve shore-side prep time that maximizes play time on the boat.

Amelia

I see you have changed your Avitar. I think it's great. I guess after the maiden voyage, it is starting to hit you that it really is a boat and not just a distant dream.
It will open all new adventures for you.

You think, Jocelyn, it would be putting the cart before the horse? Maybe I should first invest in some cooking apparatus for this crazy craft, and see what I'm talking about. That will presuppose building an actual galley, rather than the very temporary arrangement - with no stove or sink- currently in place. I am, as yet, a beginning student, not a teacher, when it comes to marine cookery. But I'm looking forward to seeing what others advise.
