Some cops are just bullies with a badge and a gun. Even if you're right, getting confrontational is usually counterproductive.

Absolutely. I wasn't there, but our water cops have a a reputation for being jerks, and I've known this boater for years, and have never known him to be anything but squared-away, calm, courteous, public-spirited, and kind. He doesn't roll over and play dead when faced with ill-founded 'authority', though, unless I miss my guess. Anyway, now he's mad, not because he got the ticket-- he admits he deserved it by the letter of the law, but because the DNR cops were obviously out looking for trouble, and behaved in an inconsiderate and unsafe manner. "Unbecoming," he called it. I suspect that's a Navy term for which our younger generation might have a cruder description.

Anybody know where I can find a hat- like a ball cap- with a red LED on the port side, a green LED on the starboard side, and a white one behind? I know they make them with forward-facing LEDs in the brim, which are just great for flying at night. I want to get such a hat for my neighbor, who complains that he has given the nav- light requirement for his inflatable dink some thought, and is having trouble coming up with a solution.
