SinOrSwim Member Posts: 73 Joined: 06/30/2009	I don't have a water cooled A/C anymore but I never left mine on when I had one as I was worried a fitting or something might break and the pump would just keep pumping water into the boat when nobody was there. I do see cruisers on our dock that keep theirs running 24/7, the water never stops coming out. We leave ours running 24/7 but like I said it's a house unit vs. water cooled. We had a boat sink in our marina a few years ago because they were hooked up to the water on the dock and left it on while they were gone. A pipe broke and the bilges finally gave out. I'm assuming you want to leave it on because it takes so long to cool off when first starting?

BananaTom Admiral Posts: 968 Joined: 12/05/2006	I did, but I was on the boat for a visit everyday, or at least every other day. A high water alarm system would be good to have, if you are worried about a water fitting rupturing, and your bilge pumps wearing out. They make them that will signal your cell phone now. When your water pump for the air conditioner expirs, the compressor will kick off on high limit control, and then trip a breaker. My marina would be informed that my A/C was on, and the morning inspections by the dock hands would include water pumping out the side. If it stopped, they would call. stmbtwle Admiral Posts: 2142 Joined: 04/22/2003	I'm not sure you'll be happy with that, and I'm not even sure it's safe. With the A/C exhaust in the engine room you'll build up a lot of heat in there unless you leave the hatches open. A/Cs want fresh, cool air. Then there's the potential problem of gasoline vapors getting into the AC. Make sure your plumbing and hoses are in good condition and maybe install a float-activated cut-off switch as mentioned above.
