Is there a type of gauage that I put on the side of a plastic tank with out having to drill a hole. I have seen this type of gauage on propane bottles

not sure I have read a good review on these but will folllow your post,

crawling down in the hole to read the gauge is about as painful as it gets too.

thinking outloud here........... is there a handheld device that might work,similar to a studfinder, or infra red temp? I understand we are talking holding tank

I'll almost bet than an electronic stud finder would work, though I've never tried it.
