Houseboat 2 items, one is about to be newly installed westerbeke gen set, the mechanic said he would put down a piece of plywood instead of mounting on the struts of the alum hull to deaden it more, any suggestions what would help deaden some of the sound at instalation time.
also my macerator on the crown head is sitting on a wooden plateform on the sheeting in the bottom of the alum hull any suggestions that

Since you are near the houseboat building capital of the world, I would visit one of the factories and get pieces of the laminated walls they use. The scrap from a window cut-out is ideal to mount a generator on. most of the builders (summerset/Stardust) use that scrap material for the same purpose but there are always more pieces left over. That laminated board is also a lot stronger and less likely to rot than a piece of plywood.

thanks. your right, Ill be there monday, that sounds like a good idea, I was kind of thinking along the lines of 5/8's decking, if you know when mounting this gen set, hes not using a westerbeke, engine mount I wonder if he just mounts to the wood plateform are will he go through the alum struts also?

Typically they will attach the board/floor to the aluminum stringers and then mount the generator directly on that floor. That laminated wall material is very strong and will give many years of use without rot.

Well the generator won;t be mounted directly flush with the floor...it should have some type of rubber spacer/mounting bracket to minimize vibration.

Most of them will go out of their way to help.. I'd try Sharpe or Stardust.

You might also check McMaster-Carr online catalog (www.mcmaster.com) for vibration isolators. They are commonly used for mounting rotating equipment like pumps, fans and generators.
