My port engine started running crappy last week. It almost acted like it was a low battery, didn't want to turn over easily. Once started, it wants to idle up around 1100 rpm and won't come down. it is blowing fuel out of the exhaust.  After a spark plug change, and a slight adjustment of the timing, I cranked her up again and same thing.
I still have the holley  4 brl, double pumpers on and was wondering what some of you may think the problem is. Do you think it is the float stuck open or something like that? I manually closed the choke, but it still idles at between 1000 and 1100 rpm. I can't get it to idle down, and it is sending raw fuel out the back.   Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

OK Old HB, .   By the way, this is the boat(318's) we had given thought to changing over to 2 barrel carbs. Any thoughts on whether to do that or not?

Junk the holleys and install the carter AFB's the engines came with originally.
If the holleys are indeed double pumpers then they are to big for the engines. i believe the smallest double pumper is 780 cfm and the carters the engine ran from the factory is 600 cfm. you will have less trouble with the Carters in the long haul. the only thing i can say about the holleys is they will always give you an excuse to open the engine hatches.

Cant argue with that I liked the Carters. However you have one engine running ok so you should be able to obtain the same results with the other one.

2bbl not a good idea. You dont have to open up the 4bbls past the primarys. You might get into a situation where you need the power.

As already stated, JUNK the Holleys. Forget 2bbls. Go AFB. Try marineengine.com , or call Marysville for a dealer list. Often one farther away may give a better price to get your business.

Update:  I took the holley off and when looking it over, spotted a small peice of gasket material lodged in the secondary, holding the butterfly open about 3/16". ......Yep, I smiled, did a little clean up work on the gasket that had separated below the riser, put it back on, fired her back up to listen to it purrr like it used to.  some days you just can't help it.....LOL

thanks to the replies fellers.
