Just pulled my 42 Gibson after 5 years in water.  Bottom paint good shape--no blisters.

A... Should I remove all botom paint to gelcoat or just sand well and reapply 3 coats?

B...What req'd things should be done to the hull, fittings etc. considering it will go back in  the water for another 5 years?

C...Any special places to be checked to stringer rot prone to a Gibson?

Thanks all in advance...Happy Holidays

Welcome aboard!

I don't own a Gibson so I can't help you with the rest of your problems, but I can, and certainly will, remind you that it is MERRY CHRISTMAS and not happy holidays. If you wish an explaination, I can afford you that.

Welcome aboard and Happy Holidays.
I lift store my Holiday Mansion and do not use bottom paint, so I'm of little help.

Will be happy to help you with any other questions.

I would do just as you asked.

Sand the old paint off and re-apply new and re-work all through hole fittings. When you go back in you will have peace of mind for the next 5 years.

Welcome Aboard!!

OHB's suggestion is just what I did after 4 years. I sanded the entire bottom with 80 grit paper, wiped it all down with acetone and applied two coats of paint. should be good for another 4 years. Oh yeah, I had about a dozen blisters which I opened up the previous year when I hauled the boat. I used a Dremel tool to open up and grind down the blister's and then filled the hole's just before I painted.
Won't know the results for a couple of years but I's sure it will be just fine.
