Does anyone know where I can get a copy of a Mercruiser service manual for a 1977 228 TR? I have been trying to buy one for a long time and actually sent money twice but no manual.

I found original mercruiser manuals on ebay for my 73-74 225's. I believe you can still get them through Mercruiser also, but they are a little pricey. As a last resort, many of the aftermarket mercruiser manuals (such as Seloc) will cover that engine, albeit not as thoroughly as the factory ones.

You can call Mercury Marine publications at (920) 929-5110 or order online thru the Parts Express or through the DockStore on this website. Please have your engine, or sterndrive serial number or part number of the manual available."

FYI--Due to the age of the engines you may have to put a "1" in front of your engine serial number to get results from their online parts store.

I think that is what I need?? Transom assy I guess is one that mounts to transom?
