Hey,
I have an 86 Stardust Cruiser that I've been remodeling for the last year.  We're having great fun learning about houseboats.  This boat has a single 305 Mercruiser that runs very well but I'm having trouble with the shifting.  It seems like we get the cables just right, and the next time out, she won't go in reverse.  Today, she went into reverse just fine and decided not to go into forward.  Then, she decided not to go into anything.  But, all of a sudden, the shifter worked like new.  Not handy!!!  We checked into the electronic controls but they're way overpriced for this type of boat.  Any help would be appreciated.  Would new cables be the answer or is a 62 ft. boat just too long for a cable shifter?
