I'm looking for tips on changing a sea-water pump impeller. I have a Westerbeke model 15.0 BTG-614, purchased in 2001. I succeeded in changing it once, but I had difficulty keeping the crescent key in place while bending the impeller blades to insert the impeller into the pump housing. Is there a special tool available to help with this installation?

Use one of the plastic electrical cable ties to depress the vanes on the impeller. Then you are able to easily slid it in and work it as necessary.

Thanks Rick,

I like your suggestion; it should make the installation much easier.
