MissKitty Junior Member Posts: 5 Joined: 03/29/2006	we have a tdx system on boat. the vacuum pump is not working and needs to be replaced. Anyone have any suggestions to what a good replacement would be. , this is an old system and seems to need repair every year

Head Master Member Posts: 106 Joined: 10/28/2002	The old Mansfield TDX didn't use a vacuum pump; it used a regular pump to empty itself. But if the TDX is connected to a VacuFlush toilet (made by the same company), the toilet does use a vacuum pump. Parts for the TDX haven't been available (other than the chemical used for treatment) in years, so you're dead in the water there. But the VacuFlush itself is still being manufactured, and parts for those, including vacuum pumps, are readily available. If it's indeed the TDX's pump that's failed, you should be able to adapt a conventional macerator pump to it, to pump it out. Or you can go with a SeaLand T-Series pump, which is vastly superior to the rubber impeller-type macerator pump.

MissKitty Junior Member Posts: 5 Joined: 03/29/2006	thnx for the info. we do have the vacuflush toilets and they are new. any recommendations if we decide to change this system? The tdx had a new brain installed 2 yrs ago, not sure where they found the parts. We are refurbishing and wondering if we should make a change before we get everything put back together

alreadygone Admiral Posts: 792 Joined: 02/07/2004	We have 2 complete vacuflush heads,vacuum pumps,complete systems. Abolute love them!!!(especially the 1QUARTflush!!!) If I ever got a different boat, I'd be waiting for an excuse to rip whatever it had out and replace with Sealand's Vacuflush! Have no idea what you're talking about "TDX" .but if you already have part of vacuflush system, pump or whatever, I'd only replace parts necessary to make it all vacuflush! The Sealand people wouldn't even have to pay me for a testimonial! Bob ------------------------- I carry a gun because it's too tiring carrying a cop.

SeaLand Technology bought the marine division of Mansfield plumbing--including the TDX--in 1984...several years later SeaLand slighly redesigned the TDX and renamed it the SanX. The SanX was discontinued altogether about 5 years ago. Head Master Member Posts: 106 Joined: 10/28/2002	The TDX was an add-on sewage treatment system that was installed downstream of an existing marine toilet. They were most commonly used in conjunction with VacuFlush toilets, but were also connected to many other brands as well. The TDX was developed by Mansfield Sanitary back in the '60's. The marine division of Mansfield Sanitary was later taken over by SeaLand in 1984, and the TDX was renamed the San-X. For all intents and purposes, it was the same product. They were a Type I MSD, legal for use on boats up to 65 feet LOA, and were quite popular in the '70's and early'80's. Their popularity began to decline once it became common knowledge that the chemical that they used for the disinfection process was formaldehyde-based. Formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen and has been added to the Hazardous Materials list by the EPA. So after that information came out, fewer and fewer people wanted to use them, and they were finally dropped from production. However, if you have one and it works, it is still a legal type I MSD. The disinfecting chemical is still being manufactured and is still available on the market, although it's becoming scarce.
