I have and old crown head that I need to replace. It's
probably a 1986 and it sounds like I have a blender full of rocks
when we flush it, to the point where boats 3 slips away can hear.
From reading the posts it seems like the Sea Era is the way
to go, but I really don't want to re-plumb everything for the fresh
water type. I guess my question is for those familiar, is the
raw water type going to be as noisy as my old crown, or should I
look at the remote pump or just suck it up and try for the
pressurized system? I'm not totally inept at plumbing, but
I'm not the best either. Any thoughts appreciated.
Also, does anyone know what settings controls the
typing? This is my first post and when I type the message
duplicates and looks "off" unless I hit the undo button?
Thanks in advance.

You hit the right button. I have a 1984 model Crown head. Mine too was a bit noisy but worked fine. I went on the Raritan website and ordered a factory rebuilt base unit. You pay a certain amount for the unit but get a refund when you send yours back in the same box. They don't seem to care what shape yours is in because mine was solid rust in the outside. You keep your same toilet bowl. It is a real easy swap and though a new one is not silent it is certainly bearable. Good luck.

I found the LBA on the website. This then begs the question
of which would be a better buy, a rebuilt base for the crown or an
all new self-contained Sea Era ?

I'm doing that exact swap this weekend, I'll let you know the results. BTW, I'm going back with raw water intergal pump. The remote pump sounded great, but $100 more.

The SeaEra "conversion" is the SeaEra LBA, and is a plug and play
swap for the Crown LBA, and is about the same price. Raritan offers
exchange terms for it, same as they do the Crown LBA. You'll be a
lot happier with the SeaEra 'cuz it draws half the amperage, uses
half the flush water, and is a lot quieter. Not to say that the raw
water version is QUIET, but it is a whole lot quieter than the
Crown.
The pressurized flush water version uses even less power and flush
water, and actually IS quiet...quieter even that most
household toilets. And converting to the pressurized flush water
version is easy...doesn't require any new wiring, just a re-routing
of the flush water intake to connect to the cold water line
wherever convenient--making sure to follow the directions in the
manual to do that.

So, if I understand correctly, the Crown bowl will bolt to the
SeaEra conversion? Also, in looking at the pressurized
version it looked like I had to run a vacuum brake set-up behind
and above the head correct? Flatstick, I look forward to
hearing of your experience. Thanks for everyone's
assistance.

Yes, the Crown bowl will bolt to the SeaEra LBA...and so will any
other bowl that has the same 4 bolt mounting pattern.
Installing the vacuum breaker and solenoid valve is easy. If you
don't understand the instructions, call Vic Willman at Raritan:

Well, I finally got the change over done. Everything else got in the way. The Sea Era is much better than the old Crown head. Works better, not quite as loud. Wife is really happy about the larger holding tank.
