We are changing the holding tanks on our boat and have access to a polyethylene tank.  Will a polyethylene fresh water tank work as a black water holding tank?  Can the proper fittings be retrofitted to this type of tank?  Thanks.

Think the basic tanks are the same. MAKE CERTAIN wall thickness is sufficient!!

Thanks Bob for the reply..  What thickness is sufficient?  This is a RV tank and seems a little thin but I don't know what thickness to look for.

Sorry for the delay, don't come round here too often. Not gonna do all the homework for you, but all the specs are here.
