I am trying to settle on one brand of black water tank treatment to avoid some problems I am having from switching brands. I did a search and see that Peg recommends both Raritan K.O. and Odolos as the best choices.
Here is the way I use my black water tank: Lake Powell has free pump-outs and lots of free non-potable water for system flushing. So after each trip, I head to the pump-out station, dilute my tank with non-potable water, empty the tank, flush with some more clear water, then empty again. Then I add some treatment to help for the next trip. Liquid seems to work better than powders or tablets for this because I generally have to add some water if I am using dry products.
I have a 1.5" vent, which is probably adequate for a single 100 gal tank. I have no other ventilation.
My guess is that K.O. is a better bet for someone that has to keep their tank full from trip to trip to avoid pump-out fees. But for my situation, I am thinking that Odolos liquid might work better. Since it may be several tankfuls before I am able to tell if Odolos is all it's cracked up to be, I'd appreciate some input from those who have tried a few brands over the years.
We just bought a gallon of odorlos before the season was over but never got a chance to use it. Our marina charges $20 for a pump out so we typically let the tanks(100 gallonx2) fill up before getting a pump out. Usually takes a few weeks to a month to fill them up so Im interested to see how odorlos does. The price is pretty fair on it and it seems that its more concentrated since it calls for less oz/gallon. Best price I found was at Camping World.

I've used Odorlos and it worked well, but we have used BacTANK T3 for the last 2 seasons and I won't use anything else. We don't pump as oftem as you. I use about 6 oz. in each head after pumpout and if it will be more than 2 weeks I'll use another 4-6 oz. after two weeks. We also use the "Safe Scrub" when cleaning the heads as it contains some of the odor eating stuff as well. The secret to your success though is having the tank well ventilated. You said you had a 1.5 in vent line which is great. If you can have it cross vented from one side of the boat to the other to allow air flow that is even better. The little odor eaters have to have air to live. Don't let anyone talk you into putting in "filter" on your vent as all it will do is reduce the air flow.
If you try this get some of the general cleaner she makes called "Yellow Stuff Cleaner". It works better than advertized. I bought 4 gallons of the stuff at the House Boat Expo this year and used isome today in some water (about 1 part cleaner to 2 -3 parts water) to clean my top deck.
