Bought this 1983 houseboat last fall, and we're enjoying it.
Maurell Prod. in MI stopped making houseboats, and I've been
unable to find anyone up there with archived data (weight, person
capacity, pontoons, water/waste capacities, etc) Does
anyone have this data or other information that may have come with
the houseboat??

Thanks James- I have a 75hp Honda. The short middle pontoon
sounds like a good idea. My Crest has an aluminum
holding tank in the middle - part of the motor mount frame.
Not really much room for this pontoon - but it would help
keeping it more level.
another question- We use ours in fresh water (IL river) and
had to seal several holes in holding tank about water level (due to
corosion). There were no anodes on hull, so I bolted a
magnesium anode to the back bracket of each pontoon - these anodes
were almost completely corroded after one season. Have you
ever noticed this problem?

Where do you keep boat? Sounds like you may have a electrolisis(sp) problem at your dock. Letting stray electrical current into water.

good point!- Our docks and shore power at Seaway Marina are in
pretty bad shape. Could also be stray current from the steel
hulls in slips next to our Crest? Is there any way to
check for stray current around our docks?

I can't help you there. Anyone here know how to check for stray current?

I wonder if using a regular test meter would show something, one probe attached to ground and the other probe in the water? I have seen reverse polarity on steel and aluminum hull boats stun close-by fish and they float to the top like they are dead.

I just bought a 1979 Crest houseboat that has been extensively
modified. They added about 3 feet to the front and 2 feet to the
rear. So It now measures out to 40 feet. We love the huge front
deck. They removed the factory roof, raised the height by 2 feet,
and installed a residential style patio awning.
Using mini pontoons, they built a 3 foot x 12 foot swim platform
onto the rear with a nice swim ladder.
The original decking around the outside was removed and replaced
with trex.
I am a little concerned about weight. Isthere a way to tell if the
boat is sitting too low in the water? It seems to run fine although
with just a 50 HP it won't go anywhere fast.

PrimeTime,
We had the same problem across the river from you at EastPort.
There is a way to test for stray current. I don't know
if they still have the tester or not but it wouldn't hurt to give
John at EastPort Marina a call to see if he does. In our
situation it was actually some bodies boat on the dock. A
brand new 330 Chaparral was wired wrong from the factory and was
wreaking all kinds of havoc on his own and everybody else's
outdrives that were within 4 0r 5 slips of him.
