HI all!!!

Well, I found the perfect boat, in the price range I wanted and the right amount of work to give me a wonderful feeling of accomplishment...in fact, it even had the floor plan I wanted.

Everyone asked me why are you having the boat hauled out and surveyed...that is a lot of money, the boat runs, needs cosmetic work but why waste 800.00 for the haul out, wash and survey...

Well I will tell you why, there were no less than 200 maybe 300 blisters ranging from quarter to 2" in dia... Then we discovered an underwater fracture that was causing the slow leak vs the shaft seals... Next came the inspection of the stringers and to my suprise no issues, in fact stem to stearn solid. Okay, i thought I can work thru the blisters and good fiberglass repair maybe on our way.

I had thought that the few interior leaks related to poor seals on a few windos, but not to be so! Tracked to several roof leaks resulting in more damage than I dreamed of and interior finish carpentry is not my expertise...

By now you might be able to understand why a survey, by an objective professional really means. The repairs, it appears might exceed the value of the boat. When you add up almost 5k for bottom repair and paint, another 12-15k in rot repair and about 2500 in electrical repair...that is why you need an out of water survey!

Yep, I still really want that boat, but unless the owner gave it to me then I am just going to have to wait till I can find the next boat out there waiting for me! Hope someone might read this note and think twice about skipping the haul out and survey!!!

Darn it, I really did like that boat!

Thanks for a real world example. MANY newbies have been had due to the lack of a survey. There are a lot of boats out there with negative value due to problems that arent obvious to the non expert..
