Marina where we had last boat up untill sale last weekend has a slip that'd be perfect for a 30' +,- cruiser. Problem is, there's an old decrepit Nauti in it now. Dock owner is concidering evicting boat because of disuse and neglect. Has tenatively agreed to give me first shot, but sometimes buddies get in the way! What should I expect to pay for 70s ish maybe 40 foot or so boat with fair interior and spongy stern decking? Would give odds that stringers and possibly transom are gone also. Merc V8s, upper helm, nice boat before neglect. Owner died, wife still paying stall rent. Hasn't been run, or hardly entered in last 3 years.
Give me some ideas,
Bob

The wife must be sick of paying rent and hopefully realizes the boat's not worth much. Even a good condition boat like that is hard to sale. I'd offer $2500 or so, they'll probably think it's worth $15k, at least your low offer will bring them back to reality. Really the bigger issue is do you want to take on a project like that.

If is as bad as you say, it has negative value and someone is going to have to pay disposal costs. Wouldn't take it as a gift. Some newbie is going to get screwed.

There is a boat yard around Ky dam that had 2 houseboat that you could have for hauling away. If you have any interest, let me know and I'll get the phone number.

DON'T WANT THE BOAT!!!!! Want the stall. Just wondering if it had any value at all, so I could make a slightly higher offer, loose a grand or so when sold, and have a great located stall.

Are you thinking of picking up the boat on the cheap to secure the slip? If that boat was on the West Coast on my lake the bottom cost wood be 25,000.00 no matter the condition. A 1974 47' Naut sold last year for $50,000 that was in mostly Old original condition except for the pot belly stove and the vent pipe cut thru the upper deck.

Sounds like you cant sell a boat in your area without a dock. This is /was true in many areas. However with the present economy this situation is changing in many locals.
The local dock is 30% empty. Prior to this year there was a sizeable waiting list.

Now about the Nautaline. Contrary to popular believe the Nautaline does have value for resale. If it is a v-drive version you may escape the transom rot if water has not sat in it. The starboard stringer by the galley goes first. You can sell a 43 for over $5000 if it has the rot but it runs. There are many people who will spend $10,000 on a 14 ft beam boat as long as the have less than 25 in it. They then know what they have. Many like this are ging for over $30,000 in decent condition.
