This is my first post and new to the forum... I have searched this
and other forums but have found no solution for my question...
I have a 34' Nautaline 73 model with 2 chrysler 318 and Dana
80 outdrive's. I am replacing both motors with rebuilt's and
currently have everything stripped and ready to pull. I'm not
sure where to break the engine to pull, from the bell housing or
from the dana outdrive. I broke the bell housing loose but I
don’t believe the flywheel can pass through the housing?
Haven't seen much info on the web about removing the motor
and everyone locally in my area hasn't worked on houseboats
especially this old of a model. Thanks for any info!

The flywheel will clear. Be SURE to grease the clutch spline when you put it back together.
Manuals are available from Marysville Marine and Marine Engine .com

So when I lift the motor the fly wheel will make the lower lip
edging. Any tips on reinstalling? Thanks for the info!

Replace the throwout bearing. Check the splines on the shaft for wear, also splines in clutch plate.

OK, I have spent all day trying to get the motor pulled from the
transmission bell housing! No Luck, No Luck, No Luck!!!
I have tried but cannot figure out how to get the flywheel to
clear the bell housing lip and slide out? I am not sure
how the spline fits into the fly wheel but it may be frozen on as
it appears the small amount I can see in the crack seems pretty
rusty?
Not Sure what to do next? Any help is greatly appreciated
immensely. I attached a pic to view as I see it but I
have yet to get the fly wheel from hitting at some point on the
housing and it never came close to clearing. Is it safe to
pull from the outdrive. The boat is in the water and I have
no way of lifting it out. Thanks again guys for the help!!

It almost a sure thing that the clutch plate is frozen to the shaft. This is common. With that much rust the shaft is also frozen in the coupling on the drive end. Wheel cut a section of the housing away enough to unbolt the clutch from the flywheel. Some housings had a rubber plug in it that gave access to the pressure plate bolts.
My memory says the shield on the bottom of the housing is sheet metal held on by 1/4" cap screws with 7/16 wrench flats. But it's been years. Call me if you need more help.

Perhaps I should also mention that the motor is frozen and will not
turn.
Not sure what "Wheel Cut" means but I have a feeling I would need
to be able to turn the motor over for this to be able to access all
of the bolts from the clutch?
I have also removed the "dust shield" from the bottom however the
lip that it will not clear is actually molded into the bell housing
and is about 1" tall. I cannot see any way of getting the fly
wheel out of the housing. It either hits the housing on on
side or the other or the top??

Today was a great day. I called Marysville Marine and
confirmed that I could uncouple the Dana from the bell housing
without water leaking. Unbolted the housing and the shaft
slipped out easily. Once the motor was hoisted up I felt like
a complete idiot as I then realized that indeed the pan on the
bottom of the bell housing was bolted from the under side by 4
bolts?
Not to be to dismayed, however I did discover the "Clutch throw out
bearing",
I believe is the correct term?, (the part that engages the
clutch, is worn in an oval shape.
Does anyone know the best place to locate a new one? Also the
clutch and the damper plate look fairly new still has writing on
plate.
Everything has been stripped from the old and will go through a
restore repaint and new gaskets and will be put on the new motor!!!
Spline looks good on both ends.
Old Houseboater thanks for the reply, I'll keep the number handy,
I'm sure I will be needing it before it's said and done!
Thanks again!

Marysville Marine is a good source for all things Dana.
