I have a 45' Burnscraft and don't see many others out there for sale or in the forum. How do I get some history on the boat. Any info or forum would be great. My boay has a flying bridge that was added by the previos owner.

Thanks,

Fasteddie

RICK;

Seems you and I are the only ones trying to use this forum. I don't know squat about Burns Craft, (or Computers). but if you pick another topic maybe we can find some houseboat subject to talk about while it's too cold to actually go boating or work on outside projects.
Ours is a '77 Stardust Cruiser with twin OMC 225's and a 12.5 Kihler genset.

Sorry the post notification to me apparently is disabled. Burns are very sought after boats, You said a 45 I believe you mean a 43 x12 If not I would like to know. What would youy like to know about them? I know Charlie Burns and his son personnaly but I never heard of a 45 Burns, a 50 yes. Let me know what you wish to know. We will get this board up and running again. The Webmaster JOhn Ball really messed it up but the New webmaster is helping instead of hindering.

Hello Ed,

Got your contact info from the vintage houseboat forum. I am considering the purchase of a 1977 BurnsCarft 38x12. I have been in boating for almost 20 years but am new to houseboating. We have been "shopping" and looking for a few months and have looked at many Somersets, Jamestowners, Gibsons, HarbourMasters etc. We haven't seen a lot about Burns Craft. Is there a source for info on them? Do you have any comments on that particular model... things to watch out for etc.?

Any info from you (or anyone else out there) would be appreciated.

Thanks
BC

Pirate,

Yes, it is a 45' X 15. This is a custom boat, the flying bridge was added 3 years ago it came off a Gibson and the swimm platform is off a old Chris Craft. It is a 1973 with twin 318's the boat has had a complete redo in 2000. I would like to know more info.

Thanks,

Pirate,

Can you find out how many 45" BurnsCraft house were made from your contact? I think this one was sold new from Hundley Marine on Lake Dallas. Any production info on my 45'er would be great?

According to charlie he never built a 45 but built several 50s with bolt on catwalk.15 ft beam. Yours sounds like a 50.

Burns was probaly the best built fiberglas houseboat of the 70s. Almost bulletproof. They had no where near the rot the rest have developed.

I recently purchased a 35 ft Burnscraft - The registration says it is a 70 model, but when I look on the net I don't see any 70 Models with twin 318 engines, which mine has. I do see twins on the 71's. My problem is with the outdrives. I purchased it knowing one of the engines and the generator did not work and that it had not been out of the dock in two years. The one engine runs but when I put it in gear it does nothing. Could it just need hydraulic fluid? I can see the cable move. It is located on Lake Nolin in Kentucky and I can't find anyone in that area who will work on it and of course it is quite costly to have it hauled to Louisville or Somerset, KY. Any suggestions of things I might be able to check?
Thanks, Tom

Were you ever able to locate an owners manual or anything else. IMy husband and I have a 32' 1976 Bunscraft. The interior was redone a few years ago and we are now replacing the transom and stringers. We have twin Chris Craft engines built from Buick blocks with Volvo outdirves. They are still running and we still have the original Kohler gen (purrs like a kitten). While we have her out of the water, we are replacing the fuel tanks, hoses, belts, updating the wiring, new rub rail, new gaskets on outdrives, new bearings and o-rings, etc....the list goes on. We would love to get our hands on an owners manual and on any other info available. We love this boat! We want to keep it in tip top shape!! Is there a Burnscraft forum?

Thanks for any info!

Thanks Old Houseboater! I found that forum sometime ago and couldn't find it again. On the Burnscraft forum it says that Charlie Burns only built boats through 1974 and that 34' was the smallest boat he built. My boat is a '76 32 foot boat. Did someone else build houseboats with the Burnscraft name? Any imput/history would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Carol

Hey gang!
Just chimming in here to let you know you are not all alone!

I just purchase a '64 River Queen 38 and thinking I may have the oldest Houseboat floating today!!!

I have to laugh at the posts concerning "I have a boat that was built in '76, but supposedly they stoped making them in '72....I got the same story when I started asking question about mine (supposedly didn't start production until '66).

Welcome and GOOD LUCK! We're all in this together!!

The hull number on our Burnscraft is BMF321760776. Can't wait to see what interesting info we can get from our hull number!

Number says it's a 32 footer built in 76.

Charles memory must have been a little ragged. I haven't seen him in over 5 years. If I run into him again I will ask him. Charles is in his early eightes and lives in Florence Alabama.
