Thanks so much Old Houseboater! I learned something new today about this boat. I'm not crazy after all! We love this boat and would love to find an owners manual. Any ideas of where we might get our hands on one?

Owners manuals are scarce as hens teeth. Most of them didn't tell you much anyway.
The really important items like plumbing and electrical schematics weren't included in most manuals. Plumbing isn't hard to figure out but electrical can be problamatic. The electrical systems used in that era are obsolete by todays standards and if you are planning any changes, you might consider a complete upgrade.
Most houseboat builders of the period used common power plants, generators, toilets, stoves etc. Service manuals are available from boating sources and even the original manufacturers.
If you get a manual for a older Gibson you can just substitute your boat name and not be too far off on the information contained therein.
Are you sure you don't have Chevy engines? The only Buick combos that I have seen were paired with OMC drives. A Volvo/Buick combo would be new information for me.
You are having the transom and stringers replaced. A number of our readers have a keen interest in this item. It would be helpful if you could give us a complete story on this project including pictures, COSTS, who's doing the work , and quality of the finished project.

Old Houseboater,
Thanks for all of the helpful info.
Our marina is doing the work on the boat. We will be going out on Sat morning to take a look, so we'll take some pictures. The transom and stringers are an expensive project, but we knew what we were getting into before we bought the boat. Our surveyer gave us a lot of good advice which we used to negotiate a fair price for the boat. On the structural rebuiding (transom and stringers) we are spending approx $5000.00 not including many of the engine work and things we're replacing while they have our engines out of the boat. We have the best glass guy in our area doing all of the fiberglass and gel coat work. Our transom and stringers are as good or better than they were when the boat was new. They are working on straitening out years of electrical messes...you bring up a good point of doing an upgrade. There are many things we want to take care of while we have it out of the water and have the engines out. We have already enjoyed this boat and are looking forward to seeing the end result of the current projects. We plan to keep it a long time and use it a lot!

Okay, finally some pics of our 1976 Burnscraft. She was out of the water from Nov29th until Jan 14th. We rebuilt the transom, stringers, the port engine, replaced fuel tanks, engine room wiring and the list goes on and on.... Her name is "Knot a Yacht", she is a 32 footer. I have put the name on the boat since these pics. All of these were taken in the shop of our marina. We tried to put her in the water last friday, but we had to pull her due to a leak....got it sealed and she went in late Saturday. Copy the below link into your browser and if it asks for a password use boatgal.

Mr. Burns, Thanks so much for your posts. Sorry to hear that your brother is ill. We have a 32' 1976 Burnscraft houseboat on Lake Texoma. I have a link to some outside pics in this thread....if you would like to get a look at her. We are currently replacing the sanitation system and hope to be finished with the most current projects within the next month. Once we're finished I'll post interior pics. If you're ever up our way we would certainly love to show you our boat!

Rick, I haven't had any luck posting on the site. My files are always to big. My pics are at http://photobucket.com/albums/f55/Burnscraft/ We need to post some inside pics of our boat. You can post pics at photobucket.com and then give the link to your pics. We are at Eisenhower Yacht Club in Eisenhower state park on Lake Texoma. Let us know if you're in our neck of the woods and will take you to see our boat!

Fasteddie,
We manufactured both a 44' and 49' Burns-Craft houseboaat which were eventually labeled 45' and 50'. There were many built as is shown by the representation across the country.
Best wishes and happy boating!

Sorry to butt in on this discussion but Burns Craft did make a 43' houseboat in the later years, and that mold was also used in building the later 80's model of Harbor Master. Somewhere along the line, the Burns Craft hull had to have been derived from the Chris Craft Aqua Home because they are very similar. the Aqua Home was also made as a 45x15. Could it be a nameplate switch by chance? Just curious because I know someone that bought an old Burns Craft hull/cabin mold when they closed and finished it off with Harbor Master name plates.....it was the furthest thing from a Harbor Master look I had ever seen!
