My wife and I are hoping to rent a small houseboat for a trip down the Mississippi from as close to the headwaters as possible in Minnesota to New Orleans.  We're looking for an outfitter who rents one-way to New Orleans or someone who is looking to have their boat transported to New Orleans.

Sounds like a good trip, however, I have never heard of a business that offers those services. You may want to purchase one, and then sell it at the end by placing it with a broker.

If the business exists, I can imagine the cost would allot, like $12,000 to $18,000 for a rental of that type. The business would have to bear the cost of return transportation.

I do know there allot of boats forsale in that area where you want to start. I have looked at buying one from that area, but the expense to get to Florida would be cost prohibitive.

BT,
Why not buy a boat and let them bare the expense of bringing it to FL. Get good insurance and a binding agreement, whats to worry?

I did think of that idea, but I am not ready at this time to buy another one, yet.

I looked on YachtWorld, There sure is a nice 41' 1989 Gibson in Twin Cities, MN for 49,900, ready to go to New Orleans.

I would worry about fuel along the way on a trip like that, after reading about challenges of others in finding fuel every 150 miles.

When we brought our Carl Craft up from St. Louis to Wilmington IL, we had two 55 gal drums of fuel strapped to the back.  That was over Thanks Giving holiday two years ago. Great four day trip... One hell of a lot beer and 1 turkey cooked in the galley. I'd love to take a trip like that again... why couldn't I have been born rich, instead of good looking. LOL !
