I have a 1986 38 foot Holiday Mansion Aft Cabin with twin Mercruisers  (Chevy 305) and a 6.5 KW Onan Generator. Since it is an aft cabin space around the engines is tight and the starter on the port engine has gone bad. The yard has never changed one on this model and they say they might be able to get to it by removing the generator. If not they will have to pull the engine. Anybody know if the starter can be replaced with just removing the generator?

Thanks

My starters in my 1983 are facing forward and mount to the top of the flywheel housing. The starters can be seen if you take the steps or cover off in front of the aft cabin bed. If yours are configured like this your yard has assumed the conventional starter mount and should look at your boat to revise their plan.
