With all of the rain in eastern Tenn. I have had a window on my houseboat that leaked.

My first fix was to slide the window open, pull up the slide insert and make sure the area was clean of debris. So any water could get out the weep holes.

When that didn't correct it, I noticed that when the window was slid shut, it wasn't quiet against the outside rubber gasket. There are a couple of plastic pieces on the frame that is suppost to push the glass out to seal the outside as you slide it shut.

This window was used a lot and the plastic was a little flat. I cut two pieces of insulated wire and forced them into the inside of the plastic pieces to expand them.

Now the glass goes out against the rubber seal when the window is slid shut.

No More Leak.

I plan on trying a system using an evaporative cooler, .....but 2 different persons have mentioned the isssue with moisture in the air from the evaporative cooler, using this type of cooling system.....

we HB in a clear deep lake, back of the boat can easily be sitting in 30 ft plus. Pulling this cooler water from the bottom is easily done w/12 volt pump. Run it through the cooler unit with a fan drawing air across the colis, an wa la super cool air blown in the room. With the help of fans

I understand the issue of pumping water into a boat, so for the sake of horror stories concerning leaks, lets move on. Not dismissing this isssue I M prepaired to put things in place to deal with this issue.

Be interested in hearing the "first hand stories" or tips some of you are familar with thanks

Hi all,
My Kohler 7.5 recently started running very rich, blowing some smoke and not coming up to speed. I'm pretty sure the smoke is from an over rich mixture, not oil. Could this be something as simple as a stuck choke or carb problem?

I pulled up the carpet in my main salon today. There is still a good amount of adhesive residue left behind and also some of the underside of the carpet itself.

What is the best/easiest way to remove this stuff?

I was thinking of a heat gun. Any other solutions?

I have a 1992 lakeview with a westerbeke 12.5k generator. Gradually over last summer and this one, the generator doesn't seem to have enough power to start the a/c unit ( heat pump - central air). The a/c runs fine on shore power. I've tried turning everything else off to start the a/c but now it won't crank at all. I am at Kentucky Lake and it's hard to find someone to work on it. Any suggestions of what the problem could be, or names of generator repair persons at Kentucky Lake?

Thanks!

Since this is my 1st boat with A/C, I don't know anything about the marine air system. As everyone knows, the Southeast US has seen a heat wave like never before with temp reaching as high as 109 degrees this last week.

Sailabration says only the roof is insulated in my boat. I keep it in a covered slip and only a small portion of the aft side gets direct sunlight in the late afternoon. The 3 ton A/C seems to do OK keeping up with the hot weather, but runs a lot during the day. If I take it out in even ~90 degree weather though, the A/C will runn all day long and will stay a few degrees warmer than the 75 degree setting I typically keep it on. The boat is an '06 model and I'd bet money that the A/C has not been maintained since it was installed. I clean the strainer basket whenever I can see debris in it, but that's about it.

What are the maintenance items on marine air systems?

Should I have the freeon level checked?

My brother recently stayed on my boat for a weekend. I told him not to drink the water from the faucets and I even provide jugs of fresh water from the house. Well, after a long day of partying he began praying to the Porcelain God one evening. He ignored by advice and drank plenty of water from my holding tank. A day or so later, he said he needed an adult diaper at the rate he was running and thought it was the water from my boat. No one else has gotten sick, but I've never put any chemicals in the system to sanitize it. I flush it regularly with lots of water going through it every weekend. I don't leave it full for long periods either. Any way, it's due for a sanitizing. It's a sealed tank. How can I do this? Add bleach to the hose and pump into the tank?
