In This Case, Smaller Is Better

October 2015 Product Roy Sparks

New for 2015 is a smaller size Rapala Scatter Rap Shad lure. Measuring 2 inches long and weighing 3/16 of an ounce, the new size is 3/4 of an inch shorter and 1/16 of an ounce lighter than the original Scatter Rap Shad, giving anglers a finesse option when fish get picky.

The new Scatter Rap erratically sweeps from wide left to wide right, then back to center again as it mimics a spooked baitfish fleeing an attack, really triggering reactive bites.

We consider the Scatter Rap Shad to be a great multi-species bait that you can keep tied on year-round. Simply fish it slow in cool water and then speed up your retrieve when water temps rise. We had the most success when we changed up the cadence on our retrieve, which modified the action of the bait.

Equipped with two No. 8 VMC hooks, the new 2-inch Scatter Rap Shad will run about 5 to 7 feet deep, depending on how you work it. The suggested retail price for the smaller version is $8.99 and both the new and original size Scatter Rap Shads come in 16 attention-grabbing color patterns. If dropping a line during your houseboating getaway is your thing, we recommend you give this lure a try—and don't forget to check it out in action below.
