View Full Version : My toilet

I got 87 houseboat. I figure out most of the "stuff", but the toilet - I do not get it. It has some carnister with blue liquid and 12V electric motor under the toilet. From toilet goes to, what look like, a holding tank and then goes out - no pump out opening on a deck. What kind of set up do I have ?????. Thanks.

A home made sanitizer to mask the odors when illegally pumping overboard?
The canister sends a pre-measured amount of chemical to mix with the waste, then macerates it and sends it overboard.
Or maybe a modified Purasan like I have.

Does the motor make a grinding sound? Or is it pretty quiet?
Does the holding tank look like a tank or does it have 2 or 3 towers on top?
Do you see the name "PuraSan" or "ElectraSan" anywhere on the tank?

Look here http://www.raritaneng.com/ It sounds like an older model Raritan.

I would certainly check your state and local laws on overboard discharge. You could be in for a really big fine if it is a no-discharge zone. seehttp://water.epa.gov/polwaste/vwd/vsdnozone.cfm Easttnboater is probably right. It sounds like an old macerator/chlorinater toilet. They were common in the late 70's early 80's, but are no longer sold. See http://newboatbuilders.com/pages/msd.html

It was macerator pump, but all is gone now. Getting ready to put the c-head. Did not like that set up. It is heavy fine in FL if they find out that the valve is not secure.. Thanks all
