    Cumberland Water Levels

Lots of debate going on here in Kentucky. After 7 years of waiting the Corps of Engineers will probably be forced to delay raising the lake back to its normal summer pool due to the discovery of an endangered fish in the headwaters. Water was lowered in 2007 due to emergency repairs on the dam and took a heavy toll on lake related businesses in the area. That and the recession took several businesses under. One long time marina was completely out of the water and had to be moved. The owner eventually went bankrupt.

The $600M project is complete now (2 years late) and 2014 was supposed to be the comeback year. Now this fish issue puts everything on hold.

First "emergency" repairs that were not really an emergency. Now this. I hope they can resolve it quickly, but history is against you. Google snail darter.

That's too bad for small businesses trying to stay afloat (sorry, bad pun) in a though economy. Seems especially sad given the stated goals of our elected officials to create jobs and foster small business.
