    Welcome aboard!

I always had to have a current survey, every two years.
I have never had a steel hull, but I imagine an ultrasound would be required, as their history of failure from the inside out is well known.

Some sort of survey will be required. Most of the time on newer, aluminum hulled boats an in water survey is all that is required.

Getting insurance on a 50 yr old steel hulled boat is going to be difficult and expensive.

    Good luck.
