Land-Locked To Lake: Fixer Upper Takes On 1970's Houseboat

February 2017 News Web Exclusive

Fixer Upper dream team Chip and Joanna Gaines planned to up their game when they took a landlocked 1970s double-decker houseboat and prepared to give it a second life as a floating getaway retreat. Coastal Living shares that the Gaines were armed with a $58,000 budget for the old pontoon-bottomed houseboat and, if they were successful, it would be moved to Lake Waco, Texas.

Spoiler alert—they were successful. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with light and offer an unbeatable view of the water. A clean, modern style including an open galley give an airy sense of space onboard. The master room shows off Joanna’s unique application of thin-planked siding-inspired wall, called “skinny-lap,” behind the cozy bed. And, of course, this baby is now waterworthy.
