Knot Home

Airbnb experience above and beyond

August 2017 Feature Joseph Bjork

Airbnb can be a hit and miss experience, where some stays fail to impress. On the other hand, others make you wish you could switch domiciles permanently and stay forever. If you’re interested in finding the latter, look no further than this houseboat on Lake Union in Washington where Jen Loewen and her partner Vivek Bhatnagar have opened their home away from home to the world with hospitality that goes above and beyond. For those not familiar with Airbnb, it’s an online marketplace and hospitality service that enables people to lease or rent short-term lodging to others.

Since buying the houseboat in the spring of 2016, Jen and Vivek have made the most of it. Having gotten lucky enough to purchase the custom houseboat before it was even named, Jen was able to shape it into what it is today. The name [Knot Home] is a terrific pun that shows that Airbnb was part of the plan from the beginning.

“I luckily got to name the boat,” says Jen. “It kind of gives you a chuckle. I think it just adds to the character of the listing.”
