Thoroughbred

Published in the January 2012 Issue January 2012

ThoroughbredThoroughbred Houseboats LLC has continued with new innovations this year and expanded internationally. The innovations have been in better insulated glass walls (including new glass colors), improved dual generator engine setups, better painting and coatings for the roof gel coat as well as the Thoroughbred exclusive Pebble Tec stone exterior surfaces.

The international market has taken off in this slow American market. Thoroughbred is now building boats both in Russia and China with strong manufacturing allies. The markets are just starting and the plan is to introduce its houseboat lifestyle to expand its business as well as expand recreational activities. This expansion for Thoroughbred will allow this manufacturer to hire many more employees to help build the boats in Kentucky as well as support the effort abroad.

In the near future Thoroughbred plans to build glass boats in the smaller size range, 16- by 75-foot to 18- by 85-foot with efforts to make this more affordable. The Albany-based builder feels the addition of all-insulated glass side walls will truly help the resale value in the future, keeping the boat almost timeless. They are also expanding their exclusive fiberglass parts with a new canopy TV box holding a 55-inch drop down TV and new curved sport bimini tops to eliminate the canvas and create a more yacht-like look.

Thoroughbred understands the future will still be tough for a while, but is trying its best to keep overhead low and give the customer the highest quality possible, which translates into the best value for your hard-earned money.

2011 Recap

Thoroughbred has been working hard at increasing its capacity this year and hopes to expand in 2012 to accommodate the anticipated increase in demand from both domestic request as well as its Russian and Chinese customers. By January its plans should be well underway.
