Beaverdog One

August 2014 How We Got our Name Web Exclusive

Beaverdog One

Our houseboat is named Beaverdog One which is an inside story. We get a lot of looks and pictures taken while out on the lake.  My husband and I have a best friend, Ritch, that passed away in April of 2006 from complications related to Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 36.  He was the one that introduced my husband to boating and ultimately got us together, so as a tribute to him and his boating legacy, we named the boat after him. Ritch came up with fictional Beaverdog while driving through the Lake Cumberland State Park on the way to the lake with my husband.  My husband, JB, saw a critter on the side of the road and said, "What was that?" Ritch immediately replied, "That was a Beaverdog!"  JB looked at him and after a moment of silence they burst out laughing.  We do an annual adult-only houseboat trip and it was deemed "Beaverdog Adventures" so it seemed perfect to name the boat!
